There’s nothing quite like spending the afternoon at a four year old’s birthday party.
I’m EXHAUSTED!
The sad thing is that it wasn’t even one of my Little’s party!
The party was at one of those uber cool inflatable jumpy places where the kids get to run around non-stop for 1 1/2 hours. Silly me thought that this would be the *perfect* place to get some fun action shots of Itty Bitty.
I gave up after about 15 minutes. There is no way this Mama can chase a 4 year old around when he’s bouncing around like a ping pong ball trying to get an in focus shot.
Yup, I got a bazillion Itty Bitty blurs.
That is when I put down my camera, and just savored the moment.
After things calmed down, I brought my camera out and asked Itty Bitty what *he* wanted me to take a picture of him doing.
NOW he was cooperative! Once he began directing the “photo shoot” he was willing to pause for a split second and look at the camera.
That’s my tip for today. When faced with a subject that isn’t wanting their photo taken, try asking for their opinion on what you should take pictures of them doing. Giving them control of the shoot can turn even the crankiest Little into a willing participant. Plus, you might be surprised and LOVE their idea!
Shot with my Canon EOS Rebel XT
Lens 50mm f/1.4
ISO 800
f/2.0
Shutter Speed 1/250
When shooting Littles on the move, the slowest shutter speed that you should have is 1/250. Anything slower and they are going to be nothing but blurs. If you have enough light {which I didn’t today} you can up your shutter speed and get even crisper photos. I dropped my ISO as far as I dared without getting too much grain, and opened my aperture to allow more light in which gave me some wiggle room to speed up my shutter and still have a perfectly exposed photo!
